Jonas Wilstrup new head of Copenhagen CVB
Current political director of the Danish Horesta, Jonas Wilstrup, will be the new Convention Director at Wonderful Copenhagen, making him head of the Copenhagen Convention Bureau.

Copenhagen is situated is 8th place in ICCAs statistics on the world's most successful congress cities. There are many cities in the world that want to become the most successful congress city so the competition is tough and will most likely get even harder.

Wonderful Copenhagen's new Convention Director, Jonas Wilstrup, is coming directly from the post of political director at Horesta (an organization for hotels and restaurants). He will have the task of cementing Copenhagen's position as a leading meeting and convention city.

- In hiring Jonas Wilstrup we have found a man who has solid knowledge of the industry, has a strong network, extensive experience in alliances, international knowledge and experience, and political courage. Jonas has just the profile that is required to further develop our work with congresses and meetings, says Lars Bernhard Jørgensen, managing director of Wonderful Copenhagen.

Jonas Wilstrup has a bachelor in politics and has since 2011 been the political director of Horesta, with responsibilities including lobbying effort, eco-labeling and exports. He came to Horesta from a position as head of the Executive Secretariat of the Danish Enterprise.

– Copenhagen and Wonderful Copenhagen is doing it's work really good, and I look forward to using my skills, in the strong Copenhagen convention and meeting team. In recent years, Copenhagen has opened new hotels and facilities, sharpened the green profile and expanded infrastructure. That the Danish capital in addition is internationally known for being a city with a high quality of life, including high levels of education, means that I'm sure, that we can not only maintain but also develop Copenhagen's position as the host city for major international meetings and conventions, says Jonas Wilstrup.

Jonas Wilstrup will be responsible for securing business worth billions to Copenhagen. Last year, Wonderful Copenhagen convention bureau has won 57 international conventions to Copenhagen and with them a tourism-related revenue of more than one billion Danish kronor. Dor forthcoming years there are already signed orders for 105 international congresses on the books, 27 of which have more than 2000 participants each. In total, almost 220,000 participants with 985,000 room nights booked, giving a tourism related turnover of 3,2 billion Danish kronor. And there are still new conventions expanding the list.

Jonas Wilstrup will assume his new position on 1 January 2014 and succeeds former congress manager Steen Jakobsen, who was headhunted as head of the Dubai Convention Bureau.
