Ireland’s Prime Minister Endorses Conference Ambassador Programme

Ireland has begun a major international push to attract more conferences to the island enlisting the endorsement of Prime Minister, Enda Kenny. Meet in Ireland, the brand used to promote the conference sector through Fáilte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority, has released a new online video promotion from An Taoiseach, Ireland’s Prime Minister.

Ireland has the perfect mix of facilities, accommodation and professionalism to host any major conference. Drawing on the visit of the G8 to the island of Ireland, the Meet in Ireland team are reminding professionals that they too can host their own global summit.

There is assistance and support on hand to help them do so. Organising a conference may not be everyone’s area of expertise and the Meet in Ireland team believes it doesn’t have to be. The Conference Ambassador Programme provides the first point of contact for any international organisers with a dedicated team on hand to assist in making introductions and providing practical assistance within the destination.

As part of this programme, a wide range of professional supports are made available to conference ambassadors and international associations, including financial and practical assistance – more information can be found on www.meetinireland.com/conferenceambassador

Commenting on the campaign, John Concannon, Director of Marketing with Fáilte Ireland said: “Our Ambassador Programme is bringing real results - delivering business and benefits to assist this country’s economic recovery. Since the start of the programme in 2009, our dedicated research team has identified and motivated 447 ‘Conference Ambassadors’ to bid for future conferences with the potential to bring in conferences worth €430 million to the Irish economy. So far, our Ambassadors have already netted conferences worth €138 million in confirmed business.

“A recent win for Ireland has been the One Young World Summit 2014. Dublin will welcome over 1,500 youth leaders from around the word for an annual summit to develop solutions to pressing global problems. Local hosts were assisted both practically and financially to prepare the bid and host the site inspection. Work will continue to market the conference over the coming year.”

Why choose Ireland?

  • Over 170 routes into Ireland with over 62 airlines - direct flights from over 20 countries
  • Range of venues from dedicated convention centres to medieval castles
  • Up to 8,000 delegate capacity
  • Over 900 hotels in excess of 60,000 bedrooms

Ireland’s destination appeal is also resonating with delegates as Ireland increasingly exceeds expected delegate numbers. The Euro Prevent Conference reported a 30% growth in delegates when they came to the Convention Centre Dublin in May 2012 while the 6th Congress of European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation nearly doubled their delegate numbers for their Dublin conference.
