HBAA reveals new executive committee

The Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA) has appointed five new executive committee members and expanded its partnership committee as the association sets the goals for the next decade.

Juliet Price, Hotelzon's head of UK marketing and business intelligence has been elected as vice chair. An active member of the executive committee since 2008, Juliet will continue to help the association raise its profile within the industry sector with the aim of increasing membership.

Andrew Deakin, managing director of Conference Care, will be responsible for the marketing committee. He takes over the role from Des McLaughlin, managing director, Grass Roots HBI. Andrew's first-class knowledge of the corporate event sector will provide further key expertise for the marketing committee.

Jayson Hodgkinson of Venue Choice has been elected head of the meetings committee whilst Ellis Salsby, managing director, Ellis Salsby Venue Finding and Event Management has been appointed chair of the training committee, which recently was renamed ‘Academy’. Ricky Kapoor, commercial director from Hotelworld Limited has been named head of the partnerships committee. Ricky takes over the position from Jo Williams from CCD Conference Reservations Ltd.

The new members will join existing members Trevor Elswood CEO of BSI, (technology committee recently renamed technology innovation and environment committee); Chris Peacock, MD Conference Care, treasure; Susanna Christie, Commercial Director Infotel Solutions, events committee and Bookotel’s Kim Scott, memberships committee.

Gareth Warnock, director of sales, hotel booking and business travel agents for Hilton Hotels will chair the partnership committee and be the voice for hotels, venues and training centres. Marriott’s Ian Leat has been named partner vice chair. A new management committee of seven partners has been created and will act as a joint committee of the executive and partners committee.

Welcoming the appointments, Stephen Usher, chairman of the HBAA said: “The HBAA executive committee has an important role to play in shaping the business environment for our membership to succeed and I am delighted at the prospect of working with such an experienced committee to ensure our voice is heard loud and clear in all the right places.”

“Last year’s recession and the financial outlook means that as an association we must clearly demonstrate how we can help to improve the operation and delivery of our services, with an emphasis on transparency and professionalism at every stage of the process.”

He added: “Stephen Ockerby has had an extremely successful term as chairman and hands the baton to me with the association in great shape, his team on the HBAA executive join me in wishing him every success in the future.”
