Tuning Into Pharmaceutical Compliance and Regulations

The Dubai Convention Bureau, a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing; whose aim is to further develop and increase Dubai’s share of the international congress and special events markets, whilst maximizing the economic prospects of Dubai; organised the Pharma Code Seminar in collaboration with Astra Zeneca a global, innovation-driven, integrated biopharmaceutical company with head quarters based in London. This initiative is part of DCB’s ongoing commitment to update its stakeholders on the current trends and regulations affecting the congress industry.

Anna Frick, Global Communication Director of Astra Zeneca, spoke at the Seminar regarding the potential impact pharmaceutical compliance and regulations have on the meetings industry. The topic is of high importance and relevance in understanding what it takes to bid for medical meetings.

Dubai has grown in importance

"Dubai has grown into a perfect congress and meeting city as the infrastructure lends itself for meetings of various sizes. Hotels, congress centre and transportation are making the city easy accessible for visitors. But what truly makes Dubai unique is the international and friendly atmosphere. As Dubai has grown in importance of hosting international medical congresses it was on top of my list to have a chance to come and present and discuss the Pharma code and meet with the relevant stakeholders. This was only the beginning of a hopefully long lasting relationship as I think that we will see many meetings being hosted in Dubai in the future," said Frick.

Most sought after sector

Jerad Bachar, the Director of the Dubai Convention Bureau, said: "The Medical Meetings Sector is one of the largest, most sought after sector within the congress industry. Further, Anna is one of the industry leaders who has worked to set high standards in pharmaceutical ethics. We are proud to bring her to Dubai to offer education to the hospitality community in relation to medical congresses and the regulations that apply to how we do business. We will continue to bring more of this information to a wider audience to further expand all of our expertise.”

Medical Science meetings draw in large number of delegates and account for over 18% of the international meetings share globally. As per the latest statistics, more than 30% of international association meeting that took place in Dubai were medical science meetings.
