The Gdańsk Tourism Fair (GTF) attracts over ten thousand visitors from Poland and abroad and over 300 exhibitors from all over the world.
Every year GTF runs two competitions for the Mercurius Gedanensis Medal and the Best Tourism Promotion. Among the laureates was Gdansk Tourism Organisation, which was awarded for the mobile tourism app 'Gdansk4u mobile' (1st place, Innovative solution in tourism) and for their Sea Battle - The siege of Wisłoujście stronghold (1st place, Tourism Event).
The jury for the contest looked closely at the youngest section of Gdansk Tourist Organisation, namely the Gdansk Convention Bureau (GCB), which specialises solely in promoting business tourism. GCB received the first prize, thus achieving first place in the Event of the Year 2011 category. The jury awarded GCB for attracting the ICCA Research, Sales & Marketing Programme to Gdańsk in 2011
"The Award is not only a great honour for the whole team of GCB, but also it confirms the understanding of the strategic role of business tourism and its influence on the cities and regions' development," said Anna Gorska, Gdansk Convention Bureau CEO. "ICCA Research Sales and Marketing Programme 2011 (The event of the year) was an important moment for us."
GCB also received a second Award in the Scientific Publication category for the 2011 Statistic Report "Business tourism Promotion as the trademark of Gdańsk and Pomerania." The publication was created in cooperation with University of Gdańsk and Pomeranian conference venues.
