Private and public stakeholders affiliated with the Danish Meetings Industry have collaborated to create a national sustainability project: the Danish Sustainable Events Initiative. The DSEI leverages the momentum of the 2012 EU Presidency to inspire businesses to greater collaboration, innovation and sustainable development.
The collaboration targets certification to the ISO20121 event sustainability certification of the Government event management system. Due to the scale and complexity of the Presidency, the project will be the most ambitious event certification project attempted in the business meetings and events sector.
The DSEI project builds on the award-winning success of the COP15 Sustainability initiative. At COP15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark hosted the UN Climate Change Conference, the largest political event ever held in Europe. The logistics team, with active support of Copenhagen hotels, venues and transport partners, met the world’s most stringent criteria for the organisation of a sustainable event, the BS8901 standard. The actions required to earn that certification were captured in a whitepaper called the Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol.
Project partners of the DSEI: The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, VisitDenmark, SAS – Scandinavian Airlines, HORESTA (The Danish Hotel & Restaurant Association), VisitAarhus, VisitAalborg CVB, Inspiring Denmark, State of Green, City of Copenhagen, Bella Center Copenhagen, Wonderful Copenhagen CVB and MCI.
