HKCEC Breaks Annual Attendance Records With 6,000,000 Visitors

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) achieved a record event attendance of 5,969,789 for its fiscal year 2010-2011 (July 2010 – June 2011), a surge of 25% from the previous year. This significant jump in attendance was the result of an enlarged event portfolio; 1,235 events were held at the HKCEC during the period, many expanding in size.

Throughout the fiscal year a total of 116 exhibitions were held at the HKCEC, utilising an average gross exhibition area of 16,272 sqm. Of the 116 exhibitions, 18 utilised a gross area of 30,000 sqm or more.

Among the 116 exhibitions, 102 were recurrent exhibitions and 10 were new. Of the recurrent exhibitions, 35 recorded double-digit growth in terms of gross exhibition space compared with their previous editions, with growth ranging from 10% to as much as 83%.

Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (HML) is the professional private management company responsible for the venue management and daily operation of the HKCEC.

In FY2010/11, HML welcomed a total of ten new exhibitions, of which five were trade fairs and five were either public and trade shows or public shows. The nine organisers of these shows included four that were based overseas and six that were organising an exhibition at the HKCEC for the first time.

Cliff Wallace, Managing Director of HML, remarked, “We take pride in serving expanding recurrent exhibitions and introducing new events to our portfolio, both of which further consolidate HKCEC’s position as a preferred venue for event organisers. This year’s remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism and experience of our 920 enthusiastic staff here at HML. Of the event organisers who responded to our e-questionnaire, 99% rated the service they received ‘Satisfactory’ or above, a gratifying achievement given the vast range of events held at the HKCEC."

“Over its 23 years of operation, the HML team has hosted 39,606 events and has collectively served around 70 million buyers, exhibitors, visitors and guests. These events have contributed significant economic benefits to Hong Kong by generating beneficial spin-offs for related industries, created numerous jobs and business opportunities for SMEs, and raised Hong Kong’s international image and reputation,” said Wallace.
