Société De Projet Salle Multifonction, S.A.S. (SPSM) has released the preliminary concept design images of the Arena Villeurbanne-Lyon project, a new proposed 13,000-seat indoor multi-purpose arena that is expected to open in Villeurbanne, France in April 2015.
The project will be developed in partnership with the City of Villeurbanne, a suburb of France’s second-largest market, Lyon, and Grand Lyon, which is the regional government encompassing Lyon and several other major suburban communities. Grand Lyon is located in Region Rhone-Alps, the fifth largest regional economic area in Europe.
The building design was completed by the lead architect, Gensler & Associates International, Ltd., through their Los-Angeles-based sports group, which is led by Ron Turner (FAIA LEED AP), who is recognized internationally as one of the leaders of sports facility design.
“We are now ready to take the next steps in this exciting project,” said SPSM’s owner, Gilles Moretton. “We are thrilled that we are now able to show our regional community, as well as a broader global audience, how the arena design is advancing. We are working with our Project Team to create a cutting edge, world-class venue that is located in the center of Europe.”
