Cologne ready for business events

Holding trade fairs and congresses in Cologne has been generally permitted once again for some weeks now. However, the current situation still holds quite a few uncertainties for planning events.

For this reason, the Cologne Convention Bureau (CCB) has put together a guide in German and English to support event planners and enable them to be clear about what is involved in organizing their event in Cologne. This guide translates the aspects covered in the Order regarding protection against new cases of infection with the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (also referred to as “CoronaSchVO”) of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia into a clearly defined checklist. This makes it possible to create the required hygiene and infection prevention concept. In addition, the CCB provides a form template so that organizers can satisfy the corresponding safety and hygiene requirements. All of the information is collected at https://location.koelntourismus.de/en/eventplanning-coronavirus.

“Guests can held their business events without concerns in Cologne,” reassures Dr. Jürgen Amann, CEO of the Cologne Tourist Board. “The companies of the sectors trade fair, hotel, venue, mobility and trade are thoroughly prepared and working according to the required high standards of safety and hygiene. We look forward to a large number of events. Cologne is ready.”

All in all, Cologne offers an excellent event infrastructure which planners can also rely on at the moment. The local sector partners are working hand in hand in order to make business events possible without problems.

Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH:

“Trade fairs are indispensable as central business meeting points, in order to get the economy rapidly and sustainably back to normal to the greatest extent possible. This is both an incentive and an obligation for Koelnmesse. As fast as can be, we want to once again open up our trade fairs for exhibitors and visitors, and to offer them safe trade fair participations that promise success even in times of the coronavirus. We have summarized our precautions for the protection of our customers at www.koelnmesse.com under #B-SAFE4business. So we, like all of Cologne, are looking forward to welcome the trade fair guests.”

Johan Vanneste, President and CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH:

“Cologne Bonn Airport is the gateway to the Rhineland and to the city of Cologne for guests from around the world. As an airport, the health of our passengers is especially important to us, and we do everything to ensure that travellers arrive here with a good feeling and above all safe and in good health. A number of weeks ago, we took numerous measures in the terminals to optimize processes and adapt them to meet hygiene standards and we introduced new processes. We are very happy that more people are flying once again and are well prepared for them. Our guests will find everything they wish to know about healthy flying at Cologne-Bonn airport at www.gesund-ans-ziel.de or www.travel-healthy.info

Christoph Becker CEO German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA Nordrhein e.V.):

“We miss the guests and we look forward to being able to entertain and accommodate them once again. The hygiene concepts of our hotels and restaurants ensure a safe and relaxed stay.”

Jörg Hamel, Managing Director of Handelsverband Nordrhein-Westfalen Aachen-Düren-Köln e.V.:

“Trade in our city lives to a large extent from our guests from inside and outside Germany. The top priority for the companies of Cologne’s retail trade is the health of their customers and employees. We are doing everything to make shopping in Cologne a safe experience.”

Borzoyeh Mohsenzadeh, Chairman of TAXI RUF Köln Wirtschaftliche Vereinigung Kölner Taxiunternehmer eG:

“Under consideration of the requirements of hygiene and distancing we look forward to welcome our guests and tourists from around the world and to bring them closer to our beautiful city. We are, after all, Cologne’s Kölsche original.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------About the Cologne Convention Bureau (CCB):

The Cologne Convention Bureau (CCB) is the city of Cologne’s official convention office. Integrated within KölnTourismus GmbH (Cologne Tourist Board), it offers event organizers an initial independent point of contact for questions regarding Cologne as a destination for conventions, congresses and incentive events. According to a current study, the Cologne meeting market’s total turnover (from consumption) in Germany amounts to EUR 1.3 billion annually. EUR 720.1 million remain in Cologne. The CCB cooperates closely with the convention sector to market Cologne as a destination for meetings and congresses. It is supported by more than 170 partners in an extensive partner model.
