Participants from 16 countries gather for a major conference on Baltic Sea cooperation

On 24-27 October, UBC (Union of Baltic Cities) XIV General Conference takes place in Växjö. Some 300 participants from 16 countries will attend, mostly officials and politicians from the member cities, but there will also be representatives from the EU in Brussels and other actors who operate in the Baltic Sea region. 60 young people from different countries will also participate.

This year’s conference will focus on the increasingly important role of the cities in the development of sustainable communities, and has the theme Leadership for the future – cities as leaders for glocal, sustainable development.

During the conference, 60 young people will take part in UBC’s youth conference. The young people will come together to exchange ideas about future leadership of sustainable development, and they will be an important voice in the general conference where they will carry out assignments for UBC’s different working parties, as well as take part in panel discussions and workshops.

– We welcome the participants to Växjö and look forward to interesting lectures and networking with the aim of jointly finding practical ways forward. A special welcome to the 60 young people who are the leaders, entrepreneurs and decision makers of the future. In the days the participants are here, we of course want to show off our municipality and the work that is being done on sustainability, says Per Schöldberg (C), Deputy Mayor in Växjö.
